THE AUTHOR, OR RATHER, THE AUTHORS!

The texts were written by the journalist and artist Joanne Dasoul, with the participation of numerous teams involved in the gardening work of the Museum, so at least 70 people! She could follow them and ask them questions about their workplace during the seasons.

The scientific direction was insured by Isabelle Glais, director of the botanical gardens of the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, and Frédéric Achille, deputy director.

THE BOOK:

Four seasons, for four gardens! Quatre saisons au jardin carries us in the annual cycle of the gardening works, month by month, detailling the essential gestures and technics of the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle’s gardeners .

If everyboby knows the famous Jardin des Plantes  in the heart of Paris, created in 1635, we discover during the reading the 3 other gardens belonging to the Museum and dedicated to the preservation of plants and the scientific research: the Val Rameh (Alpes Maritimes), the Arboretum of Chèvreloup (Yvelines) and the Harmas Jean-Henri Fabre (Vaucluse). Located in different regions of France, they are home to remarkable plant collections. Their geographical situation allows the discovering of cultivation techniques suitable to the southern or northern climates.

The book also suggest a series of species, selected in those different gardens, to cultivate at home.

The jury appreciated the practical and reachable language, the clarity of the numerous illustrations, the pertinence of the plants suggested for cultivation. The jury also rewarded the high quality of the layout, the colour harmony, the fluidity of reading.
