THE AUTHOR, OR RATHER, THE AUTHORS !

The texts were written by the journalist and artist Joanne Dasoul, with the participation of the numerous teams involved in the gardening work of the Museum, not less than 70 persons! She could follow them and ask them questions about their workplace along the seasons.

The scientist direction was handled by Isabelle Glais, director of the botanical gardens of th Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, and Frédéric Achille, deputy director.

THE BOOK:

Four seasons, for four gardens! Quatre saisons au jardin carries us in the annual cycle of the gardening works, month by month, detailing the essential handiwork and techniques of the Museum’s gardeners.

If everybody knows the famous Jardin des Plantes in the heart of Paris, created in 1635, we discover along the reading three other gardens  that belong to the Museum, and dedicated to the plant preservation and scientific research: the Val Rameh (Alpes Maritimes), the Arboretum of Chèvreloup (Yvelines) and the Harmas Jean-Henri Fabre (Vaucluse). Located in different regions of France, they are home for remarquable plant collections. Their geographical location allows to discover the cultivation techniques suitable to northern or southern climate.

The book also suggests a series of species, selected in those gardens, to cultivate at home.

The jury rewarded the practical and accessible language, the clarity of the numerous illustrations, the pertinence of the suggested plants. The jury also appreciated the high quality of the layout, the colours harmony and the fluidity of reading.

4 other books were rewarded in the following categories:
